Illustrator Tools for Beginners

Video 1

When first starting the video the man goes into how to use all the functions in Illustrator. The first tool I found that may be tricky to use is the layers. It will be something to get used to figuring out which layers to use and how to use layers to make your final project. Using the tool bar for shapes seems pretty easy compared to the coding we did because the shape is pretty much given to us and we just have to manipulate it into the way we want versus having to change the numbers. Overall I think using illustrator will be fun, the only tricky part seems to be remembering all the different functions and keys to use when manipulating different shapes.

In this video we are shown how to take a drawn sketch and turn it into a logo or project on illustrator.  Transferring the picture to illustrator seems quite easy then all you must do is trace the drawing with pen tool while adding shapes to create your picture. The tricky part might be trying to use the least amount of points when creating an outline. This is so that the picture is easier to manipulate and made smoother. You are also taught in this video how to cut shapes to make new ones. For example cutting a circle in half to make an arch. The last thing I found that may be difficult is changing the number of anchor points on your shapes to give the project more curves.

Video 3

In this video we are taught how to create letter logos in illustrator. The first thing in the video is teaching us how to change the view and windows on your mac to create the correct background for the logo. Again I think the hardest part of illustrator will be memorizing which tools to use, how they work and how to manipulate them to create an image. He also teaches us how to copy and paste a shape we did which I think will be very helpful in the future by holding alt then clicking and dragging the image you have. I also find it interesting how he shows us how to use shapes to give them more texture and placement. By putting the three different sized circles, he is able to make the top of the letter P which gives the picture dimension.
